“I’m spending $600 and the code still doesn’t work.”
A code with a minimum purchase applies once the cart reaches it, and the minimum counts only the items the code applies to.

Why it happens
A discount can set a minimum purchase amount. Shopify counts it on the items in the cart that the discount applies to, not on everything in the cart, so a cart can look big enough and still be under it.
XRAYUS15 was a code made on the lab store to see these sentences live (21 October 2026): 10% off, a $1,000.00 minimum, for the United States only. One board, $600.00, is $400.00 short. With two boards, $1,200.00, the code applies. Sent to France, the same cart gets a different answer: the code is only for another market.
What Checkout X-Ray reads
- The discount’s minimum purchase requirement and the products or collections it applies to.
- The cart’s line prices in your store’s currency, since that’s the currency the minimum is set in. The sentence shows both in it.
- When a discount applies to more items than it can read (more than 25 products or 10 collections), it doesn’t guess: no minimum sentence is given.
What to look at in Shopify
The discount’s minimum purchase requirement, and which items it applies to. If none of the cart’s items qualify, the sentence says that instead: none of the items qualify.
The sentence Checkout X-Ray writes for this reason, filled in for each cart: Discount needs minimum; this cart is amount, so it’s gap short.
