“How will I hear about a change?”

When a check finds a test cart’s price changed, you get the change, the likely cause and what to do. By email on Pro, and by email and Slack on Business.

The change page

A changed test cart’s page shows:

  • The expected and the new price X-ray, one above the other; a discount that’s new is drawn in blue.
  • What changed: each discount, the shipping rate, and the total, expected against now.
  • Likely causes: the store changes made just before, ranked, each with what changed (“$10 off $80 was edited”).
  • What moved: one sentence per change (“Customers now pay $530.00 instead of $540.00.”).
  • What to do: Accept new result if the new price is right, or undo the change in Shopify, with buttons to open the discounts that changed.

Email (Pro and Business)

After each round of checks, one email with every change not sent yet and every test cart that couldn’t be checked. Its subject says the cart and the prices: “Price changed: Hydrogen with HYDRO10 now $530.00 (was $540.00)”. It shows the price X-ray, expected beside now, and the most likely cause.

  • A change is emailed once. If its price moves again with nothing new in your store, it’s emailed again only after 24 hours.
  • In Settings → Alerts: Email alerts, Email when a test cart can’t be checked, and Send alerts to (otherwise your store’s email).
  • Turning emails back on starts from then: changes found while they were off aren’t sent as a backlog.

Slack (Business)

  1. In your Slack workspace, create an incoming webhook for the channel the alerts should go to.
  2. In Settings → Slack, paste its address (it starts with https://hooks.slack.com/services/) and turn on Slack alerts.
  3. Send test message to check it arrives. Remove disconnects it.

The address is stored encrypted and never shown again in full.

Quieter

  • Mute 7 days on a test cart: no scheduled checks and no alerts until then. Unmute ends it.
  • On Free there are no emails: changes show on Home, in Test carts and on the change page.

Answer the next one with an X-ray.

  1. Install on Shopify

Add Checkout X-Ray from the Shopify App Store. It opens in your Shopify admin, on the Free plan.

  2. Build the customer’s cart

Open the Simulator. Pick the products, type the code they used and the country it ships to, then calculate the price.

  3. Read the answer

The price X-ray shows each layer, and every code that wasn't applied gets a sentence saying why. Save it as a test cart to have it checked again.

Checkout X-Ray isn’t on the Shopify App Store yet. Leave your email and we’ll tell you the day it is.

A confirmation now, one email when the app is listed, then we delete your address (privacy policy).
