“Are we refunding more than we should?”

Refund Watch puts each refund of the last 60 days next to Shopify’s own calculation, and tells you when one breaks your rules. Shopify doesn’t let apps stop a refund, so it tells you right after.

The Refunds page

  • Four totals: Refunded, Goodwill, More than calculated and Less than calculated, each with what it means.
  • The period: Today, 7 days, 30 days or 60 days. Refresh reads the latest refunds from Shopify now; otherwise they’re read again when the page is more than 10 minutes old.
  • Refunds on orders placed more than 60 days ago can’t be read; the page says so.

What kind of refund it was

  • Shopify’s amount: what Shopify calculated, unchanged.
  • Goodwill: money back with nothing returned. Shipping only: just the shipping.
  • More than calculated or less than calculated: items refunded at a different amount than Shopify worked out.
  • Return with fee: a return with a restocking fee. Settled: a later refund that evened out an earlier one. Recorded reason: a difference Shopify recorded with a reason, such as damage.

Pro and Business

  • Every refund, ten a page: the order, items, kind, the staff’s reason, and the money back with Shopify’s amount struck through when it differs.
  • Where refunds pile up: by product, by customer, by payment method, and goodwill by size.
  • Rules, in Settings → Refund Watch: Goodwill over an amount, Above Shopify’s amount by more than an amount, and A customer’s refund number (their third refund in 60 days, say). An alert goes out a minute after a refund breaks one: by email, and on Business to Slack too.
  • Weekly refund summary, every Monday at the check hour, for the last 7 days. A week without refunds sends nothing.

Refunds made before you first used Refund Watch never alert, so installing it doesn’t flood your inbox. On Free you see the four totals.

Answer the next one with an X-ray.

  1. Install on Shopify

Add Checkout X-Ray from the Shopify App Store. It opens in your Shopify admin, on the Free plan.

  2. Build the customer’s cart

Open the Simulator. Pick the products, type the code they used and the country it ships to, then calculate the price.

  3. Read the answer

The price X-ray shows each layer, and every code that wasn't applied gets a sentence saying why. Save it as a test cart to have it checked again.

Checkout X-Ray isn’t on the Shopify App Store yet. Leave your email and we’ll tell you the day it is.

A confirmation now, one email when the app is listed, then we delete your address (privacy policy).
