The issues, by kind

One line of totals, then a button per kind with its count. Each row names the pair (“SUMMER20 and Buy three, get 30 percent off”) in one line; Details has the full sentence, how to fix it, links to the discounts in Shopify and the test carts that ran into it.

KindWhat it meansHow to fix it
In your test cartsA saved test cart lost a discount to the other one of a pair.As for the pair’s kind below.
One-sidedOnly one of the two is set to combine with the other’s kind, so neither stacks.Turn on the missing setting in the one that blocks, or turn it off in the other, so its settings say what happens.
Same itemsTwo product discounts cover the same items; only one applies per item.Give them different items; otherwise the bigger one applies.
ScheduledA scheduled discount will be live together with one it can’t combine with.Let them combine, or move the dates.
Ended codesA code that ended in the last 30 days, after it had been used.Extend it, or stop advertising it.

Blocking discounts groups the one-sided pairs by the discount that’s set not to combine, most pairs first, so one setting can fix a whole row.

The matrix (Pro and Business)

Every active or scheduled discount against every other (up to 30): Yes (they combine), One side, Same items, No (neither combines, often on purpose) and Other dates (never live together). The joints view draws the same as coupons around one discount; select another to put it in the middle.

Good to know

  • Only pairs that can be live at the same time count: expired discounts are skipped.
  • Discounts from apps can’t be checked for same items, because the app decides their items. They’re listed as not checked.

One pair, explained on a real cart: two discounts that can’t be used together.

Answer the next one with an X-ray.

  1. Install on Shopify

Add Checkout X-Ray from the Shopify App Store. It opens in your Shopify admin, on the Free plan.

  2. Build the customer’s cart

Open the Simulator. Pick the products, type the code they used and the country it ships to, then calculate the price.

  3. Read the answer

The price X-ray shows each layer, and every code that wasn't applied gets a sentence saying why. Save it as a test cart to have it checked again.

Checkout X-Ray isn’t on the Shopify App Store yet. Leave your email and we’ll tell you the day it is.

A confirmation now, one email when the app is listed, then we delete your address (privacy policy).
